Memories are popping up on my Ipad. This one was from September 2016. It was the first time we experienced the ballon race that took place (cancelled the last two years) in this area. The balloons would land in the valley after flying past our garden. In fact one crashed into our huge oak tree one year. I had that surreal moment when a man stuck in the top of a two hundred foot tree looked down and shouted ‘Bonsoir’. There was not nothing to say but ‘Bonsoir’ in reply.
The little girl in the front of the photo is the daughter of our lovely neighbours Manu and Lucie. She is almost a teenager now, how time flies….

Lovely hot air balloon photo! I have to say that your story of speaking to the man who crashed his balloon into your tree brought up one of my favorite WWII stories about Nancy Wake, an amazing and attractive woman born in New Zealand and brought up in Australia, who was an adventuress fully committed to fighting the Nazis. You resemble her quite a bit. Here is the story as Wikipedia tells it:
“On 29–30 April 1944 as part of the three-person “Freelance” team headed by John Hind Farmer (code name “Hubert”), Wake parachuted into Auvergne province, France. Resistance leader Henri Tardivat discovered Wake tangled in a tree. He remarked, “I hope that all the trees in France bear such beautiful fruit this year”, to which she replied, “Don’t give me that French shit.” 🙂

That’s a great photograph Rosie. It reminds me of sitting outside a pub years ago and a balloon landed in a nearby field and the pilot climbed out and got himself a beer.
