Time: The seasons are changing already…

Sunset In The Paddock. Donegal Ireland.

So this evening RD and I decided to sit and watch the sun go down. It made a fleeting appearance this evening just in time to hang low and say au revoir.

We are so conscious of time passing.

We played bubbles with the girls, took time with them. And when the sun came out we took the moment.

We sat on the bench by our summer house in our lightweight jackets, with a wine and a beer, and watched the sun go down.

It was chilly, I have suspected for the past few weeks Autumn is approaching.

I don’t understand why people fight the thought that Autumn is here. In Ireland Spring starts on the 1st of February, logically that makes the 1st day of August Autumn. The farmers start to bale the grass, bring in the harvest, they know.

The Celtic calendar sees the 1st of August as the start of Autumn. The traditional Irish calendar aligns with the natural cycle of the solstices and equinoxes, marking the start of autumn in August.

But when I said today that Autumn was here someone was like ‘Oh no, it’s still Summer. I am not ready for Autumn yet.’

Ready or not, it’s here.

Just embracing what is….

  1. There is something so sweet about savoring the last rays of a summer day, like the last ripe peach in the bowl. 🙂

  2. Yes! I was saying to Maureen the other day that the air had an autumn feel. And when you switch to the old Irish farmers’ calendar then May 1 becomes the start of summer. Which makes so much more sense, given the warmth already in place and the pagan joy surrounding May Day. x
