An impromptu post…
We’ve been busy, over the last few months in particular, what with new jobs and all. We both work shifts now, RD often working weekends.
So today we were both off together and thought we would follow the ‘French Sunday way’ and have a totally chilling day.
We had cause to open our paddock gate earlier in the week. The cess had become blocked (I know we don’t have a lot of luck with cesspits!) and we had to have access to it. As we sat out in the garden today, RD noticed the gate had blown open, and said ‘I must close that.’
As part of our renovations, and our commitment to rewilding RD left about 2mtrs of walkaround when we finally fenced the garden for the girls. He also left enough space to mow at the bottom of the paddock, by the gate, so he could get the mower in without being bowled over by mad puppies. You can see it in image below. Needless to say, it has grown wild and free this warm and at times wet summer.

We chilled all day, even had an late afternoon snooze. RD got up first, leaving the girlie’s with me, they have to be involved in all we do!
I heard him say ‘Oh no! There’s a cow in our garden. But it was no cow! It was a humongous bull, with a head the size of a small sideboard!
‘Fuck!’ I said, as it lazily sauntered up the side of the garden stopping to look at me through the glass door. ‘It’s a bull!’

It had feasted on the smorgasbord of delight in the re-wilded part of the garden. What with all the ornamental grasses we have sowed over the years it was in bull heaven.
The girls were going mad, and I was trying to shut them up, as he could have walked through our fencing as if it was butter, if he so wanted to. And there was I and the frenzied puppies looking at him through a glass front door, which he could have also just walked through if he so wanted to.
RD was there with a hoe, although I’m not sure exactly what he was going to do with that when a half ton bull decided he wasn’t going to do what RD wanted him to.
By now the bull had walked all the way up the pathway to the corner of the paddock, but couldn’t get out, RD was in the paddock by the gate, when the bull decided to come back to the gate. ‘Quick’I said ‘he’s coming back’ as he gained pace when he saw RD, who shot out of the gate and into our garden like a jack rabbit.
Eventually he went out the gate into the road. RD, as quick as he could, climbed over the wall wading through the waste high grass and quickly closed the gate. The bull turned, looked at him as if to say you bastard! And sauntered on up the road.
I had a local group put it out on FB and minutes later two trucks came hurtling up the road.
Just another adventure to add to the list. What don’t kill ya, makes you stronger!

A good one! Glad the bull had a gourmet meal, and that none of you were harmed during his dining excursion. Neighborhood Facebook pages can definitely come in handy for locating wandering animals.
