Taking Time Out

The seating area in our hotel suite.

So I am sitting here in this lovely hotel room, chilling. We need it.

In the six years (I know, we have now lived in Ireland the same length of time we lived in France! How time has flown.) we have lived here we have been so busy. Not least the last 2, when we made the final push with the house renovations, and changed jobs.

We are tired.

We were going to go to Tipperary, to see relatives. But to be honest the thought of the long drive, and the hectic visiting was just too much. We decided to see more of Donegal, choosing this spot just an hour and half away from where we live, and are currently sitting in a cosy, small hotel, in the remote village of Culdaff, based at the northernmost tip of Ireland right on the Wild Atlantic Way.

Whilst it is in Donegal, it is interesting that as you come further away from the border with the UK the Irish people become the Irish people I remember from all those years ago, when I visited Ireland with my family. It is only now that I can see the edginess of the people where we live. How sad is that? The damage that has been done!

I had contacted the hotel to check they have a lift, and they confirmed, and also advised that they would put us in the room nearest to the lift, so I didn’t have too far to walk. But when we got to the room they had given us a beautiful suite, generating a ‘Wow!’ from us.

After a lovely meal, all home made, using Fresh ingredients sourced locally, we just went to our room and chilled.

The bar has live Irish music, so we took our time, going down late to just soak up the ambience, with the roaring fire, surrounded by timbers from the old Derry Dock, which make up the actual bar and seating area.

We are loving every minute. Off to the Wild Atlantic Way now, on a mellow Autumn day. I do feel as if the sea is calling me.
